Aaron’s repaired and galvanised DeLorean
chassis
The word you’re looking for is “wow!”

Its simply unrecognisable from the rusted chassis on the previous page, isn’t it?
You’ll notice that Aaron took precautions to prevent his frame from warping, by welding some box iron in an X format, diagonally between the front and rear shock towers. He took measurements before and after galvanising, and there was not even 1mm in the difference after galvanising. A superb job, and well done to Aaron for all his hard work.
Notice that the inside of the transmission tunnel is fully galvanised? Aaron actually opened up this area completely, sandblasted it thoroughly, and welded it closed again before galvanising. In fact, there is not 1 single boxed in area on this frame that Aaron did not open up and remove every trace of rust and epoxy from before galvanising – no wonder he got such great results.
His hard work doesn’t stop there! Remember the plate from under the engine cradle on the previous page, which had nearly disintegrated with rust? Aaron wasn’t happy to simply replace this plate with a flat piece of steel, which would have meant losing out on the strengthening ribs which were stamped into the plate originally. He got to work on his milling machine, and made a die to press these shapes into the newly fabricated panel, just as it was originally. He also made a die for stamping the square bulge at the edge of the plate, to allow the lower control arm room to move without hitting off the plate.
Check out the pics below of the dies that Aaron made, and the final result. Pretty impressive work! You can also see in this set of pictures how well the front frame extension on the chassis was repaired, including a whole new lower plate and steering rack mounts.
