The Restoration continues!

Wonders will never cease – I have finally updated the progress of my DeLorean restoration!

Back in February (2005), I took my perfectly good DeLorean apart to restore the frame. I told myself that I would have the project finished by August! Ha ha. Well, obviously that hasn’t happened, and I (and others) have often wondered since February “what was I thinking???!!!”.

I know the answer to that question is that once this job is done, it will have been worthwhile – I will have a 100% rust free and rust proof DeLorean, and will have the rest of my life to enjoy driving it. But I do miss my car!

Anyway, here are a few reasons why I am not finished the project, and why its been so long since I updated the website:

·        Shortly after taking the car apart, we decided to sell our house and move out of Lucan in Dublin. All our spare time for months was spent viewing other houses, making phone calls about the house we were buying or the one we were selling. Then of course, there was the small matter of actually moving, and unpacking all our stuff in the new house. Anwyay, long story short – there are not enough hours in the day to move houses and restore old cars.

·        August – went on holidays for the month – got nothing done!

·        Work – very busy all the time.

·        The chassis and all the parts of the car were at my parents house – 120 miles away. Kind of rules out doing a bit of work in the evenings.

·        I am very very indecisive about the galvanising part of this restoration – I’ve changed my mind at least 20 times about whether or not to do it. I spent a lot of time phoning various people and companies, and researching on the web.

·        Finally, I spent a lot of my spare time researching where I could get this or that job done to the frame. E.g., I found a very good powdercoater – C & F Coatings and Fabrications in Dublin (near the Red Cow Roundabout). They will be powdercoating my chassis and suspension parts whenever I have them ready. I also spent a lot of time trying to find a method to take the old epoxy paint off the chassis, which I have finally figured out.

So what have I done? You can follow my progress on the next pages…
