Back to the Restoration
March, April, May, June and July all flew past, and I didn’t do a thing to the DeLorean. August came and I began to realise my initial goal of having the restoration complete by the end of August was becoming a bit unrealistic. In fact I realised that if I didn’t do something soon, I could start running out of time getting the car back on the road for EuroFest 2006 in Belfast.
So, at the beginning of August, the chassis was loaded onto the pickup truck, and brought to Paul’s house in Kildare. Paul had recently bought a sandblaster, so I wanted to see what effect it would have on the epoxy paint on the chassis.
The answer is “no effect”. In the areas where the epoxy was already gone, it did a great job of cleaning up the rusty metal to look bright and shiny. But, where the epoxy was in good condition it would not even put a scratch in it.
Hmmm, and so began my worries about how exactly we would get the old epoxy off!
