Lifting the body away from the frame…

This was the fun bit! Although, it was a lot of work. To raise the DeLorean GRP body to a sufficient height so that the frame could be rolled out from underneath, we had to raise the car to a height of 7 concrete blocks in each corner.

So, using a trolley jack on each side of the car, we raised the GRP body, put 2 blocks under each corner, and lowered the car onto them. Then, putting another block under each trolley jack, we raised the GRP body further, and put another block under each corner, and so on, until the body was raised high enough. We took our time, making sure there was not anything we had forgotten to disconnect as the 2 halves of the car separated.

The DeLorean began to resemble a monster truck after a while! Check out the pics below to see the body fully raised above the frame. Notice that the blocks under the GRP body were now preventing us from rolling the frame out from underneath, so, we had to raise the body at the front, move the pillars outside the wheels, rest a plank of wood across the blocks and lower the GRP body onto the plank. Then we repeated this on the rear, and could then roll the frame out from under the body!
