Rust damage

The first picture shows everyone laughing at me and my DeLorean! From left to right, we have Shane, Maurice, myself and Paul.

The following pictures are not for the faint of heart – in the places I do have rust on my frame, it is quiet bad. The good news is it is all completely repairable! It will be interesting to compare these pictures showing my frame at its worst with pictures after it is all restored…

I plan on having the bottom plate of the front crossmember cut out, the inside sandblasted thoroughly (including any necessary repairs in that area), then sealed up with a new thicker piece of steel welded in its place. The frame will also need a patch on each side of the front frame extension as can be seen in the photos.

With the frame completely stripped, we loaded it on the back of Maurices truck, and took it to the service station to power wash it. Then we arranged all the parts as neatly as possible in my Dad’s garage, and assured him that it will all go back together soon, and he can then have his garage back. He’s been very understanding about all this, thanks Dad!

So, that’s it for now. I hope you enjoyed following this restoration so far, come back soon to see how we refurbish the frame! Thanks a million to Maurice for all his hard work so far, and thanks a million to Paul for coming down to Limerick to help us with the project!
