Repairing the front of the frame – part 2
This page shows how Sean
fabricated the new plate to replace the old one which we cut out.
He started with a flat sheet of
steel, 3mm thickness. We decided to use 3mm steel plate, which is nearly twice
the depth of the original piece. This should add a lot of strength to the area.
The flat piece was cut to fit the
width of the chassis, and measurements were taken for the curved pieces to be
cut from it. The cutting was done using a jig-saw.
Next, the 90 degree seam was
welded onto both sides of the curved shape in the middle, to bring it back to
the original design.
Following this, holes were
drilled in the same location as the original plate to allow for installing the
steering nuts and washers.
