Hi All! Like a lot of people we were searching for a while to get out dream car, but finally 2 ½ years ago we got one through the classifieds on the back of DeLorean uk club magazine in Manchester. She was a good runner but needed work, like the usual exhaust gaskets, water pump, etc., that needed to be done on a 23 year old car. Since then she has been very reliable and clocked up lots of amazingly joyful miles going to and from car shows and DeLorean meets, which are always great fun and very interesting.

I love the look of the car so much, low, flat and mean… there is just nothing else like it on the road today which makes it very fun to drive! People are just staggered and even more so when those legendary gullwings open up! It’s a great compliment to John DeLorean that his dream car is still a dream car even by todays very high standards.

Driving the car is what they were built for and I try to take mine out as often as I can. With the rear engine location its very grippy pulling off the line and gets up to speed quite quickly, but it can also be very fun when you want it to be with rear wheel drive and the engine hanging out the back it can be “lively” good old fashioned style! However the car is just at home on the motorway where it will cruise very happily thanks to the smooth pull of the V6, interior comforts and all independent suspension all round, it’s a pretty nice place to be!

Overall Ian and I have nothing but praise for the car and the people in Belfast for the job they did. They, John DeLorean and the car deserve so much more credit that what they got (especially from the media) – it’s a motoring history icon. So to anyone who is thinking of buying one, we so go on! Live the dream… Drive the DeLorean DMC12.

Shane’s DeLorean restoration!

December 2005, Shane decided to join the DeLorean dismantling club of Ireland. There are only 3 of us, but we’re growing all the time!

Yes, Shane decided to restore his DeLorean chassis also, in preparation for Eurofest. Of the 3 frames (John’s, Aaron’s and Shane’s), Shane had the nicest condition frame to begin with.

Apart from some minor impact damage to the front crumple tube, the frame was in great shape, but Shane wanted to ensure it would stay that way.

So, Shane asked Paul O’Malley to remove the frame from his car, and strip all the components off it. He then had the chassis repaired and welded by his uncle, and galvanised by Galco Steel, in Dublin, Ireland.

Shane’s car is currently being re-assembled by Paul, and should be driving again in no time.

Here are some pics, more will be posted soon!
